Philip was born in Keighley, Yorks
and educated in America and Britain. He was a teacher in Jordan with VSO (Voluntary
Service Overseas). After a stint on a pirate radio station, he went
legitimate and joined the BBC.
Philip has been a BBC
correspondent and anchorman for more than 30 years. He has presented all
of BBC TV's main news programmes including the One, Six and Nine O'clock
News (as it was then called).
For the past few years he has
been a regular "face" on BBC News 24 and BBC World - the
international television news channel. His prime time newscast rebroadcast
by WLIW in New York attracts more viewers than CNN.
